Well, my craft area looks like a tornado hit, and instead of cleaning it up (like I should be doing), I decided to get online and find out which Christmas cartridge for the Cricut is everyone's favorite. I know, it's tough to pick just one, isn't it - especially after all the additions that the Provo Craft Company has made to the collection just in the last year!
I think if I had to pick my favorite, it would be the new Winter Woodland cartridge. I keep reaching for it when I have something to make. Here's a picture of one of three tags that I made with it last night...
The other two tags look much the same - just the snowflake cut and the initial are different. I'm using these tags on my nieces' presents. They were super simple to make. I just used Winter Woodland's tag and font creative features, did a little embossing on the top layer, glued everything together, and added a heart fastener for a little bling - that's it! Have you heard about using your Cricut cartridges to make freezer paper stencil patterns? I have come across a couple of blogs and message forum posts about this, and finally, I decided to give it a try.
First, I have to brag a little. My sixth grader played football this year, and his team actually made it to the final championship game! They didn't win, but the fact that they made it as far as they did inspired me to pull out the freezer paper and make t-shirts to wear the game. Anyway, here's a picture of the tees I made with my Cricut:

The Cricut Potpourri Basket cartridge is a mix of popular cuts from other cartridges, and for the most part, is fairly difficult to find. That's because it is exclusively available with the Cricut Expression promoted on the television infomercials.
However, if you already have the Expression or one of the other two die cut machine models - or even if you plan to buy it, but have a deal scoped out elsewhere - there's good news! You don't have to buy the infomercial model to get this cartridge. Here's the scoop...
Recently I talked about the Cricut rewards program. My advice - keep saving those points if you want this cartridge! It is not currently available on the rewards program, but I suspect that it's just a matter of time. Right now, you can pick up George, Don Juan, Accent Essentials, and Plantin Schoolbook for 800 points each.

Have you purchased any new cartridges lately? If so, there's a good chance there was a Cricut rewards voucher tucked into the package. I have collected a few of these, and just recently took the time to find out what I could get with them.
Usually, when I find vouchers like these, I toss them, thinking that it's just another way for the manufacturer to get me on the mailing list. Well, I'm already on Provo Craft's email list, so luckily, I tucked them away until I could take the time to look into it further.
As a side note, if you do toss a voucher before redeeming it (or if it wasn't included in your purchase), you can re-create it. Just visit the FAQ section on the CricutRewards.com website for instructions.
There are actually some fairly good freebies you can "purchase" with the Cricut rewards. The one downside is that you will need to pay shipping and handling, and from what I have heard, this is fairly pricey (i.e. $14.95 for a t-shirt). You will also need to create a separate account, even if you already have one set up on the main Cricut website or message board. I know - it's a pain in the you-know-what, but it just might be worthwhile, especially if you have been wanting to get your hands on any of the exclusive cartridges that you normally can't purchase.
Anyway, here's a look at what you can currently get with your Cricut rewards: Read the rest of this entry »
There is going to be a big Cricut cartridge sale at Michaels next week. Here are the details...
I spend way too much time at our local Michaels Craft Store, but occasionally, my obsession pays off. I picked up a couple of things this week, and when I was checking out, the cashier gave me a small flyer with next week's featured sales listed. Anyway, to get to the point, all their cartridges are going to be just $39.99 next week (September 13-19, 2009). Yep, all of them! Read the rest of this entry »
I bought the new Cricut From My Kitchen cartridge yesterday, and after taking a look at everything it could do, I could not wait to start "cooking" up something with it. Unfortunately, I have been so busy playing taxi driver for my two kids, I haven't had much time to play lately. However, I was able to put together a quickie card. Here it is...

As you can probably tell, it was super simple to put together. I cut the phone at four inches, and used my computer and printer to print out the "keep in touch" message on the right. It doesn't get any easier than that, does it!

When I heard that Provo Craft was releasing the Cricut Winter Woodland cartridge, my first thought was that I really didn't need another Christmas themed cart. Of course, one look at what this one could do, and I knew I was completely wrong!
Although I like the cutout shapes and fonts on this cartridge, what I really love about it is that I can make an entire 3-D Christmas village with it - what fun! I have always enjoyed putting together gingerbread houses (and I'm also a big collector of the Department 56 Snow Villages). I am more than a little happy that the kids and I can now use the Cricut to make a paper crafty village. I think it will also be great for making Christmas ornaments, as well as using as a template for our gingerbread houses! Read the rest of this entry »
Stock up on the bright yellow paper - you are going to need it with the SpongeBob Cricut cartridge! I have to admit that I never thought this little sponge from Nickelodeon's cartoon lineup would be around as long as he has been. My oldest son is now eleven, and I remember watching the first episodes with him when he was just a toddler. Now, years later, they are still making new SpongeBob episodes (and my 11 year old is still watching them). However, for the icing on the cake, there's now even a Cricut cartridge featuring this character and his group of friends - who knew!
Some people like paper piecing. Some don't. If you buy this cartridge, you might want to belong to the first group. There are an awful lot of layering options included as creative features, and you will want to use them all to really bring your characters to life and make them realistic looking. Paper piecing takes a lot of patience, as well as good lighting, tweezers, and adhesive suited for small pieces, such as the Zig 2 way glue pens. Read the rest of this entry »
So, what exactly is a Cricut Gypsy? Although it might resemble a Nintendo DS or PSP, this handheld gizmo isn't for the kiddos!

We will have to wait just a little bit longer before it's available to buy. In the meantime, our friends over at Provo Craft have been having a lot of fun building up the anticipation, even leaving daily clues on their website during the month of July.
In case you missed the clues, here they are... Read the rest of this entry »
This coming weekend is a big birthday weekend in my family, and since I had the Cricut Don Juan cartridge out, I thought now would be a good time to talk about it.
However, first I will show you the card I made for my dad, who's turning 60. It's amazing how the Cricut can even help someone like me, who has two left thumbs when it comes to anything artsy, come up with something halfway decent.

To make this card, I used my machine, as well as a couple of other tools. All the die cuts - the letters and numbers, the tag, and the flourish - were cut using the Don Juan cartridge. Read the rest of this entry »
