The Cricut Imagine cartridges can only be used in the Imagine printing and die cutting machine from Provo Craft. The artwork and patterns on these are exclusive to the printing and die cutting machine - you cannot use them in your Expression, Create, Baby Bug or Cake machines.
However, the Imagine carts can be used simultaneously with your existing original cartridge library. It has two slots - one for the original carts and one for the Imagine-only carts.
The machine comes with the Imagine More cartridge, coloring and cutting the images on any cartridge you already own. In addition to using these, there are currently more than two dozen additional Cricut Imagine cartridges you can purchase.
These exclusive cartridges are broken into two different categories - the Colors & Patterns cartridges and the Imagine Art cartridges.

The Colors & Patterns carts retail for $49.99 and could be considered your "digital paper" carts. Plug these into your machine, along with one of your traditional image carts, and you can fill in your die cuts with patterns and color before printing and cutting.
The Imagine Art cartridges also have your digital papers, but in addition to these, they offer a variety of different die cut shapes too. They are more expensive, selling at full price for $89.99. Need an example? The Lori's Garden Art cartridge has nearly a dozen different paper patterns, as well as items that can be cut, including birds and bird houses, flowers, and butterflies.
