i have both...the cricut cake gets kinda dirty gets little pieces of fondant or shortening on the roller bar that i wouldnt want on my cricut machine...cornstarch and stuff that you use to roll out fondant or gumpaste....i loved i though..,used it yesterday to cut out butterflies! lots of fun...plus if not put on right gumpaste or fondant can roll up and get stuck on the roller part that grabs the paper to roll the mat in!

I just purchased the cricut cake and was wondering why I couldn't switch out the blade and the cutting sheet to enable it to cut paper. I know that Provocraft is not recommending this but with all due respect, there is no financial incentive for them to do so. thx

someone on another blog said she used her cricut expressions with the blade for the cricut cake and the food safe sheets for the cricut cake and it worked...any one else know anything about this???? Not willing to take a chance of ruining my cricut expression...wondering if anyone else has tried or knows anything about it. wondering what the difference is between the 2 machines.

Hi Amy,

According to everything I have read about the new Cricut Cake machine, you can use all the other cartridges in this machine too. That's one thing I really love about Cricut - they have introduced several new machines since the launch of the original Personal Electronic Cutter, but they have made certain that almost everything is cross-compatible. Now - if only my kids' video games were the same way!

Hi Jenn,

I'm sure the prices will come down after they have been out for awhile - they always do. It is retailing for the same price as the regular Cricut Expression, and it's easy to find those for around $250 (give or take).

Now, I just need to stop watching TLC. I'm getting hooked on the Cake Boss show, and even though I thought I would be able to pass on this (I'm more of a paper crafter than a baker), every time I watch that show, I'm getting more excited about this machine!

Ooops - one more thing I forgot to say! The Cricut Cake machine should be hitting the stores late April or early May (just in time for graduation parties and weddings!)
