As we have less than two weeks left until December 25th, I thought I would share with you a couple of Cricut Christmas crafts I have been working on...
The first is a stuffed two liter bottle. I wish I could take credit for this clever idea, but I actually scraplifted it from Scrapalette on the Cricut message board. She made hers as a teacher appreciation gift, but I think it works just as well for Christmas too! Anyway, here's a picture of mine...
My sixth grader is giving this one to a classmate for Christmas. He is her "Secret Santa" and this is the main gift that she will receive on Friday (their last day of school). Anyway, it's stuffed mostly with her favorite candy, but there's also gel pens and other school supplies and trinkets hiding inside. I wish I could be there when she tries to figure out how to get her gifts out. Nope, they won't come out through the cap opening, but if you keep reading, I will let you in on the secret!
I actually cut a flap under the label, and used this to stuff the bottle. To do this, first empty the bottle (the kids love this part - sugar buzz!), wash it in hot, soapy water, and remove the original pop label. One word of warning - removing the label and all the sticky residue is a bit of a pain, but I found that hot water and Goo Gone does the trick.
After the bottle is clean and dry, use a sharp knife or pair of scissors to cut a "C"-shaped flap in the side of the bottle. The flap should be large enough so that you can stuff the bottle, but small enough that it will be easily covered with the new label that you make. Stuff the two liter with goodies and then tape the flap shut. Prepare the new label and stick it on using double-sided tape.
Finally, make a tag for the bottle. (Hint...the Cricut works well for this part!). I made my son's Secret Santa tag using the Joys of the Season cartridge. I also embellished the bottle with ribbons and bows.
That's all there is to it! It's a lot of fun - both to make and probably to receive too!
The next Cricut Christmas crafts idea I'm going to share are altered clipboards. Here's the picture of the clipboards that I made for my kids' teachers...
I haven't used my Cricut yet to embellish these. I am still debating what I want to do - I thought about personalizing the clipboards with their teachers' names, or making school die cuts using the Locker Talk cartridge to embellish them even more. However, I'm running out of both Mod Podge and time, so we will see.
Anyway, to keep the instructions short and simple, these actually were just $1.00 clipboards from Wal-Mart. I trimmed paper to fit (Die Cuts With a View Grade School Stack), used Mod Podge to paste the paper to the boards and to seal them, and embellished with ribbons. I also made coordinating paper pads and pens. To make the pens, I disassembled the pens, stuck the DCWV paper inside the clear pen barrels, and then reassembled them. To make the paper pads, I took regular Office Depot paper pads and adhered the DCWV paper to the top using double-sided tape.
This project was also easy, and I love how it turned out (just hope the teachers do too!). However, I will warn you that it was very time-consuming. You can't tell it by looking at these, but I am guessing I have at least four hours total invested in making these.
